M-U 5th Graders Visit Schuster Center

The 5th graders from Milton–Union Elementary went on a field trip on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, to the Schuster Center where the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra performed a concert called Humor in Music.  Selections for the concert illustrated ways in which composers such as Rossini, Jacob, Haydn, and Shostakovich show off their sense of humor through music.  The audience was also privileged to hear the winner of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Young Musician’s Concerto Competition, Miss Stephanie Zyzak a 15-year-old student from Mason High School, play a portion of a violin concerto by Tchaikovsky.

The concert cost each student only $4.50.  Other expenses for the field trip were paid for by the Miami County Foundation through a grant written by Mrs. Dee Earl and Ms. Theresa Arnold, the school’s elementary music teachers.
