for five years. One of her major points of her presentation was to inform everyone that there are many organizations that are called Hospice and most are “profit” groups and located in different parts of the Miami Valley, state and nation. However, Hospice of Miami County is a NON-Profit” organization that has been serving Miami County for over 28 years. They have cared for more residents of Miami County than any other hospice. They also have deep expertise in pain management for patient’s physical needs, plus experience in counseling emotional needs and can provide all therapies, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and supplies related to hospice diagnosis at no cost to patients. For more information, you can visit them online at www.HospiceofMiamiCounty.org.

As a fundraising event, the New Friends of the Milton-Union Public Library will participate in the West Milton Community Wide Garage Sale, Memorial Day Weekend. The group is planning to hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 in the multi-purpose room of the Milton-Union Public Library, 560 S. Main Street, West Milton.
Items included in the sale will be movies and cds, movie release posters, guitar magazines, donated household items from the Friends members and the community, and a lot of craft magazines and items.
The Friends use the funds collected during fundraising events like this garage sale, poster sales and the twice yearly book sales to purchase items and host programs for the M-U Public Library. The group continues to sponsor the Summer Reading Programs by paying for items that each child receives upon completion of the reading club requirements. The organization has also covered the costs of entertainment programs for the summer as well as the yearly Family Christmas Party and other events.
In addition to those “extras,” the Friends have purchased needed equipment, supplies and library materials such as new computers, CDs and DVDs. Other donations to the library include honorarium and memorial gifts for members who have given much or for fallen Friends.

For more information on the New Friends of the Library or the yard sale please call 698-5515. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

WEST MILTON – Milton-Union High School has been feeling prom fever this last week. April 30-May 4 was Prom Promise Week, culminating in prom May 5.
Each day of the week there were various events to get students involved and aware of what they were promising, which meant concentrating on making wise choices. The main events were held during the two lunch periods each day of the week.
On Monday, the first activity was a game that included whipped cream and bubble gum. The participants had to use only their mouths to dig into a bowl of whipped cream to find the piece of gum and blow a bubble.
The next day the game was called “Egg on Your Head.” Two students competed with one another to keep a plastic egg on their head and walk a certain distance. Continuing on Wednesday, the game was called “Feather Blowing,” in which two contestants each blew a feather across the stage in the cafeteria to get it across a certain point.
On Thursday, the challenge for the day was to how keep a feather in the air longer than the competitor. Then on Friday, the game was a McDonald’s hamburger eating contest. This was the game that many were looking forward to and participated in.
Throughout all the fun activities, the focus that was continuously brought to the center of attention was that everyone needed to be safe on prom night. When purchasing tickets for prom, students were asked to sign a paper discussing that they would make good decisions and keep their fun-filled evening safe.
Prom was held May 5 for the last time in the high school gym. As always, it was the junior class’ responsibility to decorate the gym according to a theme they chose. This year the theme was “New York.”
Students had a wonderful time and afterwards they had the opportunity to attend after-prom at Club 55.
The weekend was very exciting and many students made good decisions while keeping their previous week and promises in mind.

Tipp City, OH — Boys from Kindergarten to high school benefit from the Boy Scouts of America program nationwide. In the Tipp City/Troy area, Ginghamsburg Church is home to Pack 413 for Cub Scouts (K-Grade 5) and Troop 413 for Boy Scouts (Grades 6-12). Boys develop Christian character, leadership skills, courage and self-reliance.

On Sunday, May 20, Ginghamsburg Church in Tipp City will host the Boy Scout Tent Event on its front lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families are invited for field events, games and prizes. There will be food and beverages for sale at a minimal cost.

Tipp City resident and Boy Scout Troop 413 Scout Master Gary Vance explained, “We want to let boys know what’s available through scouting. By hosting this tent event, boys and their parents can talk with current scouts and their parents to find out the many benefits of scouting.”

“Today’s scout participates in high adventure outdoor activities like rock climbing, zip lining, backpacking, canoeing, whitewater rafting and cave exploring,” shared Lori Maginnis, Troy resident and Chartered Organization Representative, “The boys still enjoy outdoor camping and hiking on a regular basis. We are a family centered Pack, so in 99% of our activities, the whole family is invited to participate with us. ”

Pete Cullen, Troop Leader and Clayton resident explained, “Scouting gives fathers the opportunity to spend quality time with their sons in a great scouting program. Troop 413 selected our Troop # based on Philippians 4:13 ‘I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.’”

Former Union Township resident Norene (Harshbarger) Hogle will be visiting the West Milton area and will be presenting a program at the library about her experiences as a WorldTeach volunteer teacher in Namibia, Africain 2009.

Upon her retirement from 31 years of teaching in modern schools in highly industrialized nations, this Milton-Union graduate (class of 1949) discovered a desire to reach out to children inThird World countries. Searching the internet, Norene learned of WorldTeach; a non-profit group that helps economically undeveloped countries obtain teachers for remote areas.

Mrs. Hogle’s trip to Ondangwa, Namibia and surrounding towns provided her with the charming stories included in her book, Are You Feeling a Little Finer, Miss Norene? Whether reading of dealing with the flooding of her small apartment during the rainy season or of the “little beasties” that skittered around her walls, her readers will begin to understand the challenges of living in an alien land. Namibia is located on the other side of the equator, making its seasons the reserve of ours. When reminiscing about 100 degree afternoon walks, tightly clutching her possessions to foil muggers, the author sweeps us into her exciting and enjoyable African adventures.

Join us Wednesday, May 16th at 6:30 p.m. and learn from Norene Hogle’s refusal to quit after suffering a broken knee cap and share the friendships she developed during her year abroad. She will also have a book signing at the library on Saturday, May 19th from 9 a.m. till noon, and will bring books for purchase.

The library is located at 560 S. Main Street, WestMiltonand is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For more information on this or other library programs, please visit or call the library at 698-5515 or go to the website www.mupubliclibrary.org.

Marie Stebel began collecting carousels and carousel horses in the early 1980’s. Since then her daughter Katherine and husband Jon never missed an opportunity to expand her collection. Although she has never owned a horse her childhood love of rocking horses was the inspiration for her assortment. On display at the library are just a few of over 400 pieces she has amassed. One of her favorite piece is the carousel horse that has the background of an actual carousel complete with mirrors.
